Weevil in a pea

Stephen Gschmeissner

A fractured pea reveals a pea weevil (grey) within. The pea weevil is a common pest of stored products. It lays eggs on pea pods and the larvae burrow into the peas, leaving a small hole (lower
left). The larva develops inside the pea, and the adult then emerges immediately or spends the winter in the pea, emerging in the spring to feed on pea flowers.
