Visions of Science & Technology - Competition Rules
1. The promoter of the competition is The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB). The competition is open to individuals resident in the UK and Eire only. Employees and their families of ETB, Science Photo Library Limited (SPL) or Telegraph Group Limited (Daily Telegraph), their subsidiaries or associated companies, advertising and promotional agencies are not eligible. 2. The copyright of the entire image before and after manipulation must be held by the entrant or the entrant must have written authority of the copyright owner to submit the photograph for the competition. It is the responsibility of the entrant to seek all permissions required for the image to win under the entrant's name, and for the display and publication of the entry. The promoter reserves the right to request evidence of such authorities or consents. 3. All entries must be supplied in digital format - and must be submitted in their original file size without any interpolation. 4. Entries can be submitted through the relevant mechanism on the www.visions-of-science.co.uk website, or posted on a CD to the following address:
Visions of Science & Technology All postal entries must be accompanied by a signed entry form (which can be printed from the website) as proof that the entrant has read and will abide by the competition rules. Postal entries from entrants aged under 18 must include the signature of a parent or guardian who can confirm the same. Each image should be clearly marked with the award category that it is being entered under, and a description of the subject shown and when, where and how the image was captured. Details must also be provided of the camera or scientific equipment used and any subsequent manipulation, eg. Photoshop. The Promoter does not accept any liability for lost, delayed or incomplete entries. Postal entries will not be returned. 5. Category entries: up to six images may be entered in each category or special award. No image may be entered in more than one category or special award. The judges reserve the right to re-categorise any entry. 6. Any image that has won a prize in another major competition is not eligible. For the purpose of this rule, a "major competition" is defined as a photographic competition receiving more than 500 entries. If an image has won a prize in such a competition it will be disqualified. 7. All images should have been taken on, or after, 1st January 2000. 8. Judges appointed by the Promoter will choose winners. The Promoter's decision on all matters relating to the competition is final, and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the competition's judging and organisation. The judges reserve the right in their absolute discretion to:
a) declare void any entry Such decisions shall be unchallengeable. 8. Winners will be notified in August 2007 and will be invited to the Awards Ceremony, which will take place in September 2007. Travel expenses to the awards will be covered up to a maximum of £75 for each winner. 9. Competition results together with a selection of the entries will be published in The Daily Telegraph following the Awards Ceremony. 10. The Promoter reserves the right to reproduce and exhibit and to license the reproduction and the exhibition of some or all, in whole or part, in all media (now known or hereafter created) of prize-winning, commended and short-listed entries without the permission of the entrant or copyright owner or payment for such use, but only in connection with the promotion of and publicity for this competition. The moral right of the copyright owner will be acknowledged. 11. Should the Promoter wish to reproduce and exhibit any prize-winning, commended or short-listed entries not in association with this competition, then the Promoter will obtain permission from the owner of the copyright and a reasonable reproduction fee may be payable. 12. All images are submitted at the entrant's risk and the Promoter regrets that it cannot accept any liability for any loss of, or damage occurring to any image entered in the competition (how ever so caused) nor for any other loss or damage resulting therefrom. 13.
